Matt is a research assistant for this summer. He had to do field work at Willipa Bay and we were able to accompany him! We stood in a cottage located near Oysterville and Long Beach, WA. It was about a 6 hour drive and it was worth it to just get away for a bit. Matt did work in the morning and then had fun with us when he got back!
On the strip near Long Beach, they had a few carnival rides and although Will was too young (2yrs and older) for the bumper cars, he still enjoyed watching.
He had the choice of either the "horsie's or the buggy cars" and he picked the cars. He seemed a little uneasy the whole time but, when it was time to get off he said, "more more" and whined a bit, go figure!
And then we enjoyed Long Beach. Supposedly it's the longest beach in the world?! It's 28 miles long and you can drive on it- oh and did I mention that it was SANDY?! We bought a shovel and pale just for the occasion.
Matt brought Will over to the "better" sand for making sand castles.

And as I was snapping shots of them being so cute, the water came out of nowhere! It was pretty hilarious!
Will had a time-out on a log nearby for throwing the sand, just like in this pic!
And of course, we had our kite attached to a log, flying nearby.
We went to a very yummy ice cream place nearby. When we got there, Will kept saying, "gumball gumball" and we didn't understand why! He never eats gumballs, but he knows of the gumball machine (from blockbuster) and that's what he'd seen. We didn't notice it until we were all done and ready to go. Anyways, he ate his bubble gum flavored ice cream and when he was through, we let him watch the gumball go round and round in the machine. We didn't realize that there was a sign that said if you got the yellow gumball that said Winner on it, you would get a free cone. Of course Will won! And since we already ate our ice creams, we got a credit for the next time we go back there... If only we listened and let Will do it from the beginning!
Friday morning we went to a yummy little bakery and then off to their cute little park. Will thought he was so cool with his sunglasses as he stood on the see-saw like a big kid!
This was a bit scary for me but, Will totally climbed the whole wall all on his own. I was pretty impressed.
And he totally zonked out for a couple hours while driving back. We got this flag at their supermarket right before we left and he passed out as he took the SKU sticker and passed it from hand to hand. (you can see it bunched up in his right hand)
It was a great time and I'm glad Matt wanted us to be there with him. It's nice to get away-even if it's just for a couple of days!
